Listen, I hope that you’ve never had mental health issues and I hope that, in the future, you never do. Because you clearly don’t know what it’s like to have to deal with mental health issues and make difficult decisions in order to do what is best for you.
Yes, Zayn left in the middle of a world tour. He left after giving 4+ years of his life to a band that he didn’t identify with. He left after giving 4+ years of his life to a band that never defended him from the rampant racism/Islamophobia he experienced.
Zayn left, and publicly congratulated, a band that continued to do just as well–if not better–after his departure, while said band members paid him dust. All they had to do was memorize the few verses Zayn was given and try and man-age the ad-libs they relied on him for, all while retaining the image of the do-good members of a boy band. 1d reacted by stomping on racist caricatures and making passive aggressive comments, while Zayn remained respectful. And, despite all that, they still managed to come out on top.
Meanwhile, Zayn has had to try and reconcile the ‘mysterious, bad boy,’ and racist image 1d saddled onto him, with the fact that the he was the one to eventually “rebel” despite the fact that he did what he did for his own mental health and happiness, and not for the fame or glory.
1d did more damage to Zayn’s image than Zayn’s departure ever did to 1d. But if you wanna continue to keep your head in your ass, that’s your decision, boo.
Oooooh my GOD. Ugly as hell dismissal of Zayn’s mental health aside, One Direction was a job, a job that he outgrew and chose to move on from, as many people do in their lifetime. You do not owe your past co-workers shit just because you decide to take your career in a - *Zayn voice* mind the pun - different direction. Harry, Niall, Louis, and Liam were co-workers first and friends second. Leaving wasn’t something he did to them, it was something he did for himself.
And honestly, if you ever quit a job, anon, you better send every single person you worked with an apologetic fruit basket and an “I’m sorry” card signed in your actual human blood, otherwise you’re really just talking out of your big gaping asshole here.
